DAY SERVICES
SSVA seeks, above all, to value the uniqueness of the individual receiving services regardless of disability or reputation. SSVA offers a center and non-center based Day Support services that are driven by the individual’s desires and needs. As a member of the SSVA team, the individual, with excellent staff supports, will experience a community that promotes positive practices, normalization, and self-determination and allows for the development of a network of reciprocal relationships with other community members that can significantly enhance their quality of life. Day Support services are provided in the community or at an assigned day support site. On call supports are be available daily during and after service hours.
SSVA provides support on no more than a 1:4 ratio, so everyone attending our Day Support receives plenty of individualized and positive attention provided by enthusiastic and creative team members who are skilled in Person Centered Practices and Positive Behavioral Supports.
Individuals attending SSVA Day Support have the flexibility to move between work, community and center-based programs on a daily basis.
SSVA currently offers Day Support Services in Virginia Beach, Eastern Shore and Danville. Services are available Monday through Friday from 9 am – 5 pm. SSVA also provides transportation services to help ensure days begin and end on a positive note!
Community Engagement
SSVA has been providing services in the community since opening its door in 1994. Each day those attending SSVA Day Support have the option to engage in community life by joining fun, small group outings including “Eating Out Fridays,” recycling and volunteer programs, visits local points of interest, and cultural and recreational events. Community engagement means services which support and foster individuals’ abilities to acquire, retain, or improve skills necessary to build positive social behavior, interpersonal competence, greater independence, employability, and personal choices necessary to access typical activities and functions of community life such as those chosen by the general population.
Group Day
Group day services means services for the individual to acquire, retain, or improve skills of self-help, socialization, community integration, career planning and adaptation via opportunities for peer interactions, community integration, and enhancement of social networks. These services shall be typically offered in a nonresidential setting. Skill building shall be a component of this service unless the individual has a documented progressive condition in which case group day services may focus on maintaining skills and functioning and preventing or slowing regression rather than acquiring new skills or improving existing skills.
Community Coaching
Community Coaching assists individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities in accessing and participating in the community outside of their homes, employment, and day programs. Community coaching means services which are designed for individuals who need one to one support in a variety of community settings in order to build a specific skill or set of skills to address a particular barrier or barriers preventing an individual from participating in activities of community engagement.
