
Direct Support Professional
As Direct Support Professional, you will play a highly interactive and mission critical role in the lives of those receiving services from SSVA. You will have the unique ability to make a positive and lasting impact on their lives. The ideal candidate is friendly and positive, open minded and flexible, engaged in the community, and likes to be active. You will support others in finding a balance between what is important to and for them and go out of their way to help them live the best life possible.
This role has full responsibility for implementation of the Individual Support Plan of the people to whom you are assigned. This position reports to the Site Coordinator.

Qualifications

Required:
- Highly motivated.
- Superior ability to communicate at all levels
- Effective time management skills.
- Ability and willingness to perform tasks with minimal direct supervision and to accept supervision and constructive feedback.
- High school diploma, GED or equivalent.
- Ability to pass criminal/registry background checks.
- Clear tuberculosis screening.
- A valid driver’s license & insured vehicle.
- Ability to pass and maintain CPR/First Aid, Medication Assistance, Medicaid Waiver Certification, and DSP Core Competencies.
- Ability to perform basic math.
Preferred:
- Computer and internet skills; including experience with email and Microsoft Programs.
- Experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities.
- Ability to pass and maintain Medication Management Certification.
- Willingness to transport 1-6 individuals in a sedan or 10 passenger van within the community.
Work Conditions
DSPs work in a changing environment that adjusts to the needs of the individuals receiving services. The environment may be fast-paced with interruptions, distractions and deadlines. DSPs need to be flexible and be able to adjust to changing needs or activities.
Depending on the needs of the individuals, the work can be physically demanding including transferring or supporting people with mobility needs, lifting or moving items up to 50 lbs, walking or standing for extended periods of time or providing support through CPR/First Aid, behavioral support, and other interventions.
