Support Services of Virginia

Welcome to SSVA

SSVA is a unique group of Human Services Professionals who have come together for a common purpose --to help make the world a more Positive and Peaceful Place!

See what fun SSVA had at the Day for People with disABILITIES at the Virginia Zoo on May 5th, 2012. Thank you to the Virginia Zoo, volunteers and sponsors of the event who made a beautiful day a GREAT day!

Kay Reed Mirick founded SSVA on September 6, 1994 with a unique vision. She held the belief that by redefining the concept of service delivery for individuals with disabilities, it is possible for them to achieve positive and peaceful lives. Today that vision is carried on by her son, Chip Dodd, and protégé, Andie Plumley, who are committed to improving our corner of the world, encouraging fun and laughter, and turning negatives into positives.

In addition to providing services across Virginia for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, SSVA advocates for the rights of all individuals.  In so doing, SSVA has expressed its support of the Department of Justice (DOJ) Settlement Agreement that would help the Commonwealth of Virginia shift its system of care from one that prioritizes instituationalization to one that supports community options.

To find out why SSVA supports this landmark agreement, you can read Chip's letter in response to the Honorable Judge Gibney's order regarding the agreement.  In his letter, Chip states, "I believe the agreement will improve the lives of Virginia’s citizens with disabilities and allow them to enjoy the everyday freedoms outlined in the United States Bill of Rights."  To read more, click here.
